The Past is an Inventory
The past is behind us. We have to forget the regrets, forgive ourselves and others and move on. But hold on. While nature never retraces its step, we are the sum of the past.
Yes, the past is an inventory. Of memories, actions, errors, good deeds and a whole lot of things. No matter how delicious the thought, we can never, NEVER, go back and change anything. But we can change the future.
The young never worry about the past. Mostly. Some think fondly of childhood. Some others are subject to worry - when they move from twenty to thirty. So sweet.
But for most others, the past is definitely an inventory.
Some live like the grasshopper. But many live to save. Build houses, family and security. Everyone, builds memories. Whether you are rich or poor. We all build memories as we trudge on. Life is like that.
For those who save (wealth) and rarely (!) make mistakes the future is hunky dory. But for many others it is a tumultuous living. But you made the bed.
Let's understand the future is an inventory but it can be changed. Because today is yesterday's future and tomorrow's past. The new past can mostly over-ride the old past. So get cracking.
The best way to predict the future is to invent it. So invent it, create it. From the past inventory check on your errors, your transgressions and try not to redo them. Do the things that will herald a new and better future. That's the nice thing about life. You can reinvent it.
There are many wonderful things that can happen. Have patience.
The past is an inventory, sure, but who needs it if it is going to hamper your present, your new future? So get on with life.
Those who forget the past are apt to repeat it. Which is why we should not forget the past completely. You are the lesson. If you remember what you did wrong in the past and you are unlikely to repeat them. Unless you are a sucker for punishment.
So yes, the past is an inventory. Today is tomorrow's past. What are you stocking up?
